Texas legislature passed a law called the texas lemon law in 1983. It is under supervision of the Texas Department of Transportation's Motor Vehicle Division and its Motor Vehicle Board. The lemon law in Texas is an automobile law that supports consumers who buy or lease new vehicles and have repeated troubles getting their vehicles properly repaired, repurchased, or replaced.

It (lemon laws) covers most of the newly purchased or leased vehicles like cars, trucks, SUVs, vans, motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles and tow-able recreational vehicles including motor homes, etc. It does not apply to used, program cars, or repossessed vehicles.

This act is helpless if consumer illegally changes vehicle parts, or the trouble arises due to the owners carelessness, or any such reason which isvery different to california lemon law. Also, if the problem doesnt have a substantial influence on the functioning or market price of the vehicle, this law is helpless. So, how do you identify if your vehicle is a lemon? Your vehicle may be a lemon when you purchased or hired a new vehicle from a licensed dealer in Texas. Your vehicle must have considerable defects and such defects must be covered by the companys warranty. The problem must be informed within the time period of the warranty. You should give the dealer or manufacturer a sufficient time to fix the defect (usually four attempts to repair the defect with no result warrants further action). Notify your manufacturer about the problem in writing. Serious defects which can influence the working, value or safety of the vehicle are taken into consideration. Take care of all these aspects, and file a lemon law complaint. You may have to pay some processing charges regarding such.

If you find any such defect in your car, firstly go to your dealer, explain to him the problem. If they cannot repair the defect after a specific time period, you should send a letter of notification to the manufacturer.

It is necessary to give a chance to the maker to repair the vehicle before filing any complaint. Make sure you keep a copy of your complaint letter and any responseand also repair invoices.

If you have decided to file an automobile lemon law complaint, you will be required to send all of these documents to your lemon law attorneys, or if filing yourself, to the Texas Department of Transportation. You can file a complaint with the Transportation Department by depositing a small filing fee.

Filing fees will be given back to you if your lemon law lawyer wins the lemon law suit but if you have requested for repairing only it doesnt requires filing fee.

After filing a complaint just stop worrying about the problem. The Texas Department of Transportation then contacts with the manufacturer and seller and the manufacturer then send some experts to your original dealership who then try to repair the problem.

If all this exercise brings no results, then an automobile lemon law hearing is essential.
